She circled the mailbox,

jabbing her envelope at the blue 14 gauge steel, looking for a weak spot. She did this for several minutes, sighing heavily. She hadn't encountered a challenge like this in all of her semesters at the university.

At last, she turned to me and asked, "How does this work?" I pulled the handle in silence. Her mail sank into the belly of the box.

"Oh. That makes sense," she said.
